Christine Espinosa-Erlanda joins Architecture Industry Advisory Board

Christine Espinosa GAJ

Senior Associate, Christine Espinosa-Erlanda has been invited to join the Heriot Watt University Dubai Campus Architecture Industry Advisory Board (AIAB).

Attending her first meeting recently Christine joined industry colleagues and university faculty to establish an identity for the programme and discuss a framework to promote links, communication and understanding between the University, the Professional Institutions and Industry.

“The gap between academia and the corporate world is wider than it should be, resulting in students being less than prepared for dealing with the day to day demands of a busy practice,” said Christine. “We believe a ‘university without walls’ approach, which encourages students to learn outside of the classroom through internships or going on to job sites, is vital and I hope to be able to facilitate this through my involvement with the advisory board.”

As a RIBA Part 1 accredited programme the university is committed to the development of their students encouraging dialogue and providing the opportunities for students to experience theory in practice through the identification of suitable locations for site visits, guest lecturers, student mentoring, industrial placements, and suitable topics for student projects.

With a solid diversity and inclusion programme in place, career progression is one of the main pillars at GAJ and the practice has a robust internship programme in place that welcomes students from a number of different universities providing them with an opportunity to develop their skill set and learn first-hand from an experienced team.  Many of the employees at GAJ started as interns with the company before being offered a full-time position moving seamlessly into a position of responsibility.
